About Thorley Lane East Woods

Thorley Lane East woods is a wild and mature woodland containing a diverse selection of wildlife and trees.  It is in the Green Belt. The whole site is protected by a woodland Tree Preservation Order granted in the 1970’s. The southwest corner abuts the Southern Country Park and provides a continuation of the wildlife habitat provided by the park. The importance of its location and biodiversity is recognised in the Neighbourhood Plan and District Plan as a Green Open Space.

According to the Forestry Commission, a 3 acre 100 year old woodland such as Thorley Lane East Woods can capture between 485 and 728 tonnes of CO2 per year – the lungs of Thorley & St Michael’s Mead.
