Letter to Julie Marson MP

Councillor David Snowdon has written to Julie Marson MP regarding the Thorley Wood Land Sales

14th August 2022

Dear Julie,

Re: Thorley Wood Land Sales
Many thanks for discussing this matter with me earlier, it is always good to know that I have your support in protecting the Green Belt in Bishop’s Stortford. Your work to support the campaign to protect the Meads land off Rye Street and south of Meadowlands in 2020-21 was very much appreciated.

In the most recent case, Thorley Wood, an area of established mature woodland between Thorley Lane East and Broadleaf Avenue in Bishop’s Stortford, has been divided up into 12 lots and is being put up for auction. This is despite this land being Green Belt land.

The strength of community feeling on this issue is very strong. As Deputy Leader of the Town Council, I have been liaising with the local town, district and county councillors, as well as local residents who are very concerned.

As you will see from the attached letter, I have written to Marcus Jones MP, the Minister of State for Housing, asking for action on the sales of small plots of Green Belt land.

I hope I, and local residents, can continue to count on your support in protecting our open spaces and opposing inappropriate housing developments.

Yours sincerely,
Cllr David Snowdon

East Herts District Councillor
